Heerema’s heavy-lift vessel Aegir has completed the installation of the Fénix gas production platform in the CMA-1 concession, 60 km offshore Tierra del Fuego, Argentina in 70 m water depth.
TotalEnergies is the operator, in partnership with Wintershall Dea and Pan American Energy.
The jacket and four piles for the 4,800-t platform were installed last month, followed by this week’s lift and placement of the 1,500-t topside.
On Jan. 8, the deck sailed from the Rosetti Marino shipyard in Ravenna, Italy, onboard the heavy transport ship HTV Interocean II. The five-level structure, covering a surface area of 2,500 sq m, comprises a helipad, upper deck, main deck with the wellheads and instrument room, and the lower deck.
Three other vessels supported Aegir in the installation of both main sections, with all work completed safely and without incident, according to Wintershall Dea. The platform is designed to be operated from shore without the need for a permanent crew.
Attention now switches to drilling of three production wells, to be performed by a jackup alongside the platform. First gas should follow in November.
